What this policy covers

This policy was written to the best of our ability at the current stage of product development. It is subject to change at any time, and we will notify you about major changes via email.

This policy covers the data Broken Rice (“we”) collect about you (“user”), what we do with it, why we collect it, and how you can access it.

This policy also covers both the logged-in application ("App") and the public marketing site ("Marketing Site").

What does this policy not cover?

This policy does not cover what third party services we use do with your data. However, we can be completely transparent about these third-party services and link you to their privacy policies. We employ the services of trusted companies to handle transactions and actions that are outside the expertise of the team at Broken Rice. Examples of third-party services we use and the reasons are:

  1. Sentry (Privacy Policy) - error tracking and debugging
  2. SES (Privacy Policy) - email communication
  3. Google Analytics (Privacy Policy) - user analytics

What information do you collect about me?

  • Account information: When you sign up, you provide us with your name, email address and your primary currency.
  • Collaborators: You have the option to invite someone to be a collaborator on your budget. In this case, you provide us with their email address. In the same case, you may be invited to collaborate on an existing user’s budget and we will store your email address for reference.
  • Financial details: You may provide us with details about your spending, such as merchant names, cost, and descriptions on the transaction itself.

How will you use the data you collected about me?

In general, we collect information about you in order to operate our product and provide you the services outlined throughout the Marketing Site. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • analyzing your transactions to figure out which ones are recurring expenses.
  • analyzing your transactions to figure out which recurring expenses have or have not occurred in a given month,
  • analyzing your inputted budget and transactions to figure out if you are over or under budget in a given month,
  • analyzing your spending based on categories that you set,
  • listing out your financial accounts and information about them including balances, limits, name, and type,
  • provide you with a report of your spending based on trends and habits, and
  • sending email invitations to people with whom you wish to collaborate.

We may also use your anonymized personal data to:

  • debug or make improvements to the service,
  • corroborate your usage details with other users in order to analyze general trends and habits of users for determining ways to continuously improve the product, and
  • protect, investigate and deter against fraudulent, unauthorized or illegal activity.

During only necessary times, we may access your personal data to:

  • provide customer service if you personally report a bug or issue to us via email or a support form embedded in the product, and
  • send you relevant information, such as technical notices, updates, security alerts, support and administrative messages.

Do you share my information with other organizations? Who else can see how I’ve been using Broken Rice?

We share selected information with the third-party services listed above, and strictly only for the necessary operations of the service. We do not share your information with other organizations for profit and we’re committed to never doing this.

Who can I get in touch with if I want to access my data?

You can access your financial data by using the product. If you would like an export of all the data we have on you, please contact us at support@brokenrice.io.

What happens if you decide to stop working on the product?

In the very unlikely event that we will stop working on Broken Rice, we are committed to both allow users to easily export all their account data.
